icicles hanging off of a broken snow covered gutter

ICE REMOVAL - Roof/Gutters/Walkways

With the snowy and cold weather recently in Lansing, Michigan, it looks like the stage is set for a lot of ice, especially with the thaw they’re forecasting.

At Sunrise Seamless, we have a safe way to remove icy and snow covered gutters by using steam, not power washers.

If you’re not familiar with them, steamers are the gentlest method of removing ice buildup from anywhere around a home or building (it doesn’t even have to be a roof). Some people use heated pressure washers, but those have a much greater potential for damage to a roof.

Here are a few reasons to use steam instead of a pressure-washer:

  • Much gentler on the roof, gutters, and the rest of the building.
  • There is a lot of run-off with a pressure washer, potentially causing ice buildup on the ground.
  • Steamers cut through the ice faster, and produce very little extra liquid water.
  • Pressure washers use electricity to heat the water, meaning the customer pays.  The steamer heats using fuel, so there won’t be a huge electrical bill on-top of the cost of the service. (It does draw about 8amps to run the pump).

With the steam jet we can use the chunk-cutting method, meaning we don’t just melt all the roof ice, but cut it up and remove it in manageable pieces.

Steaming is also a superior choice compared to hammering, chipping, and salting.  While choices such as calcium, potassium, or magnesium chloride are better than regular sidewalk salt, they all carry the potential for corrosion to some degree.
